SEATTLE, WA – The Puget Sound Business Journal has recognized Lana Learn CEO Tina Tran Neville as a 2019 40 Under 40 business leader. The award spotlights individuals among the region’s “brightest and most innovative leaders under the age of 40” who are making major strides in their career while leaving a positive impact. The Business Journal will profile each member of this year's 40 Under 40 class in its September 27 edition and host a luncheon at the new Hyatt Regency Seattle on the same day to honor the recipients.
A refugee, former diplomat, and teacher, Tina Tran Neville is an industry leader in education technology and an emerging voice advocating for women in entrepreneurship in Seattle. Tina’s first company, Transcend Academy, is a national college preparation service that has served 15,000 students and won Washington DC's Best Education Service award in 2018. Tina launched Lana Learn in 2019 to apply a proprietary video conferencing software to connect North American teachers with two billion people learning English around the world.
Tina’s social impact-driven companies have expanded education and economic opportunities for tens of thousands of students around the world. Improving college admission test scores and increasing English competency boosts prosperity, promotes cultural exchange, and creates jobs for U.S. educators. In Seattle, Tina has been an active civic leader promoting refugee rights, education, and women in entrepreneurism.
“I am truly honored to join this year’s 40 Under 40 class,” Tina said. “I am humbled to be part of a group full of such passionate, entrepreneurial people who are advancing growth and more opportunities for our region.”
Tina’s extraordinary story embodies the American Dream. When she was only three weeks old, she and her parents fled war-torn Vietnam through Khmer Rouge-controlled Cambodia to Thailand. After two years in a refugee camp, they arrived to the United States with only $5 to their name. Tina attended the University of Tulsa, where she was the first member of her family to go to college. After attending Yale University for a Masters in International Affairs, Tina joined the U.S. Foreign Service and served in Vietnam, Iraq, and Pakistan.
Lana Learn is an online English language platform that uses proprietary video conferencing software to connect North American teachers with the international market of 2 billion people speaking and learning English.
